LEASING OF SHIPPING CONTAINERS

We are well-established within the leasing business and offer both one- way lease and long-term lease. Furthermore, we can help you determining whether leasing of containers or purchasing containers are the right approach to fit your requirements.

ONE-WAY LEASING

PLC, differ from the common leasing companies by offering one-way leasing of our containers. We specialize in supplying containers to the container shipping and forwarding business for its one-way shipments.

Our customers benefit from our one-way leasing activities, as they avoid expensive repositioning of empty containers. Furthermore at PLC, we accept redelivery of containers in locations that many other companies do not accept. PLC is working for flexible solutions!

SALE-BUY-BACK

Sale-buy-back can be an attractive alternative to one-way leasing. When you buy containers from us, we can, at the same time, agree on a buy-back price at their destination. You don’t have to sell the containers back to us. It is an option that gives you the possibility to calculate your all-in cost in advance plus you know that you can get rid of the containers when your need for them is over. Of course, there are destinations to which we cannot offer to buy back units – but please put us to the test.

LONG-TERM LEASE

Leasing of containers on a long-term basis is suitable for the customer who needs containers for a specific period of time. The benefits of long-term lease is low rental charges and the possibility to either return the container or buy it at a reasonable price after the lease has been terminated.

New containers

PLC is one of the world’s leading suppliers of new ocean containers in all types and sizes. The most popular container in our range is the 20-foot Standard General Purpose Container, or “GP” for short.

This container is very popular due to its type and size; it is relatively easy to handle, and offers a variety of applications such as:

  • Storage
  • Packing
  • National and international shipping
  • Storage on construction sites
  • Spare-parts storage
  • Stationary or mobile workshop

  • Secure storage
  • Hazardous goods storage
  • Removal and furniture storage
  • Installation of power units
  • Etc. ...

Security aspects
All of the containers we offer are type-tested by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) and certified accordingly. Additionally, GL monitors our container production on our behalf—container by container.

PLC containers are certified according to ISO and fulfil the following standards:

  • C.S.C. (The International Convention for Safe Containers)
  • T.I.R. (The Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods)
  • U.I.C. (The International Union of Railways)
  • T.C.T. (Transportation Cargo Containers and Unit Loads Quarantine Aspects and Procedures by Commonwealth of Australia Department of Health)

Our owner and product group code (Alpha prefix or owner code) is registered at Bureau International des Containers (BIC) in Paris.

Quality aspects

We set great store by the quality of our containers.
Corrosion-resistant steel is the material we chiefly use in our containers. The term usually used by insiders is “COR-TEN®” steel, or “SPA-H” (superior atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel).
These terms indicate durable, high-quality steel with a long lifetime due to the chemical composition of the steel.
Environmental protection was not the last thing on our minds when we selected HEMPEL, a renowned paint manufacturer, to supply the maritime industry paints for our containers. We almost exclusively use acrylic paint for both the inside and the outside of our containers. The inner paintwork is fully compatible with foodstuffs.

Used containers

New or used containers? This is a question our customers often face. Various considerations play a role in the final decision. Some customers choose new containers for the expected duration of use, for image or representation reasons, or purely for aesthetic reasons.
Other customers are primarily in the market for reasonably priced used containers for purely pragmatic reasons.

We have also made it possible for our used-container customers to cover their materials requirements from our global inventory. If we don’t immediately have what a customer needs, it usually won’t take long for us to track it down.
Security aspects

All of the containers we supply have originally been type-tested by classification companies, certified according to ISO, and comply with the following standards:

  • C.S.C. (The International Convention for Safe Containers)
  • T.I.R. (The Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods)
  • U.I.C. (The International Union of Railways)
  • T.C.T. (Transportation Cargo Containers and Unit Loads Quarantine Aspects and Procedures by Commonwealth of Australia Department of Health)

The depots we have hired ensure that the containers are delivered to our customers with a sufficiently valid matching CSC.

Modifications

Depending on our customers’ preferences, we offer a certain range of extra services such as:

  • Reconstruction/fittings installation
  • Repainting in all common RAL colours (no signal colours)
